Stabilization of therapeutic proteins

The therapeutic or technical value of a protein may increase if its stability towards denaturation and degradation is enhanced. We have developed a general method for protein stabilization based on the thermodynamic coupling between protein folding and assembly from fragments. The method relies on fragment complementation and in vivo screening in a spit GFP system. A paper describing the method and demonstrating proof-of-principle was published in PNAS on Nov 1, 2010.
