Early events in superoxide dismutase amyloid formation

Our research is focused on a quantitative description of protein amyloid formation. We are interested in achieving a dynamic description with structural resolution of the full-fibrillation pathway of the enzyme superoxide dismutase 1. The misfolding and aggregation of this enzyme is associated with the familial form of the fatal neurodegenerative disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Our research relies on a combination of multiple biochemical and biophysical techniques including recombinant protein expression and purification, NMR, cryo-EM and SAXS.

Please contact Dr. Kristine Steen Jensen for more information on project possibilities.
