Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry and Structural Biology! The department was created in 2010 after the merger of the Department of Biochemistry and the Department of Molecular Biophysics.
The focus of our research is within some major areas of modern biochemistry and molecular biology. These include membrane protein structure and function; enzyme structure and function; molecular interactions and molecular assemblies; bio-electrochemistry; RNA, DNA and viruses; structural biology of enzymes and large macromolecular assemblies. For more information on the different research areas at the Department please visit our research pages.
Departmental members are also engaged in running the crystallography beamlines at one of the major research infrastructure units in Sweden, the Max Lab Synchrotron Radiation Facility, as well as in the planning and construction of the future MAX IV Synchrotron.
The Department organizes and runs general and more specialized courses in Biochemistry and Biochemical techniques and methods at the bachelors and masters levels. We also host a Masters program and a PhD research school in Protein Science. For more information on these programs please visit the respective pages.
